On June 13th, hundreds of U.S. Military Veterans and family members staged a sit-in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC to demand the military get off our city streets from LA to DC, and taxpayer money be directed towards real investments in housing, health care, and food — not political stunts or militarism. In a violation of our right to assemble and protest, dozens of veterans were arrested by police while they protested on the steps of the Capitol. Trump’s $45 million military birthday parade comes at the expense of the safety of vets, citizens, and immigrants alike – using the tax dollars he is cutting from life-saving benefits and social programs.
Veterans won’t stand idly by while Trump slashes our benefits and uses the National Guard and Active Duty military to act out his dictator fantasies at our expense by violently crushing protests and kidnapping our neighbors. From DC, to LA, to the Southern Border and Gaza – vets are coming together to condemn the militarization of our communities that is killing us at home and abroad! We reject Trump’s dog and pony show!
Deploying tanks, surveillance & military-grade equipment on civilians is NEVER acceptable. ANYWHERE.
With authoritarianism on the rise, now is the time to stand up. Veterans, military families, and active duty members of conscience have been tirelessly organizing against genocide and U.S. war machine. We also know that there are tens of thousands more veterans and active duty members who are horrified by our government’s actions and the role they have played in it, and millions who have also been abused and abandoned by our government after their service. If you’re feeling this way and want to see a future where your money is being used for care – not killing – plug into our work and stay tuned for our new campaign launch this month: https://bit.ly/offourstreets
